This and That!!

Yesterday, Ella got her hair cut and went with her momma for her very first mani/pedi, which really only consisted of painting her fingers and toes, but momma got the full treatment and since someone other than MOM or NANNY did Ella’s, she thinks she got the full treatment too : )  That’s the beauty of spending time with kids, it doesn’t take much to put a big smile on their faces and to let them know they are special!!

She really likes how it feels when she slings it around!!

On a different note, and something that makes ME smile!!

I am so excited!!  So many of you have asked me to turn my - Why I “Count it all Joy” Wednesday - into a meme so you can join in, so I have been playing with the idea some and trying to decide when and how I would do it.  Early yesterday, I started looking into making a button (which I have never done), just in case I decided to do it.  The funny thing is during the process of working on it, I was asked again to turn it into a meme, so I am going to.  YIPPEE, I hope you all join!!  I am going to try to kick it off next Wednesday, if I can get it all figured out, so start thinking about and remembering all the wonderful things that fill you with JOY!!
As most of you know, I blogged about a couple of the many talents of my husband several weeks ago click here and one of those is he is a designer which came in real handy last night when I WASN’T figuring out the button on my own.  He jumped right in, as usual, and saved me.  I am saving the button until I start this, but I am so excited, he did a fabulous job.  It is just what I wanted.  YAY DAN, you are still my hero and you gave me something else to be filled with JOY about!!!
What’s making you smile today?

Why I “Count it all Joy” Wednesday

I am filled with JOY because I am a very loved and blessed wife, mom, and Nanny!!  I don’t think I could ask for much more!!
I am filled with JOY because we have a trail that runs through our neighborhood and the two neighborhoods connected to ours and since it’s been beautiful outside I was able to go on a long, evening bike ride with my hubby and kiddos.
I am filled with JOY because we are starting allergy testing with Adam and Isaac Friday and I am believing we will figure out what their targets are and be able to deal with their asthma way better!!  Praise Jesus for being able to BREATHE!!
I am filled with JOY because we built our house 3 1/2 years ago and always knew we wanted to use our extra space to bless others and we are finally getting the opportunity to.  Next week we will have a Native African Children’s Missionary staying with us.  How exciting is that.
I am filled with JOY because I joined a group of awesome ladies for the 30-Day Shred (we call ourselves the Shred Sisters, click here) and I am loving it.  My first 30 days are over and I have lost about 7 pounds and about 3 1/2 inches in my stomach (didn’t measure anywhere else)!!!  WOOHOO!!!
I am filled with JOY because my BFF from way back, Loren from The Magoos News, and her kids and grandbaby came to swim with us last week.  We really enjoyed them and look forward to many more days at the pool!!  You can thank me for no swimsuit shots, maybe after we are all shredded, LOL!!
I am filled with JOY because I am caught up on my book reviews (see my other blog, A Heart For Words) and was finally able to read Karen Kingsbury’s - Take Three, which was wonderful and it was just in time for Take Four, it comes out this month!!  YAY!!
I am filled with JOY because yesterday I was having a really bad day emotionally so I called my sweet hubby in the middle of a busy day at work and he stopped everything and listened to me go on and on about lots of things, for a really long time.  He is so wonderful to me!!  Thank you Jesus for a husband who cares enough to listen to me ramble even 20 years later!!
I am filled with JOY because Shane is home from training and doesn’t leave for the next training until August!!  I know it is a long road and the end result will soon be Afghanistan, but I am sure going to be JOYful and enjoy him every chance I get until then.
I am filled with JOY because the love of Jesus is amazing and it surrounds me and my family in unbelievable ways!!
Why are you filled with JOY?

Simply Pray

I am currently reading a Sheila Walsh book called “Get Off Your Knees and Pray”.  I’m not too far into it yet (because I have been reading too many other books), but there is a chapter early on where she asks some of her 10 year old sons friends what the Bible says about prayer.  A few of their responses were:
“Don’t even try it if you’re mad with your dad–God won’t be listening.”
“Remember to say amen or everyone’s food will get cold.”
“Just concentrate on God and try not to fall asleep.”
She goes on to say that when she asked the question, their tone of voice and animation changed and they became quiet, gentle, and reverent (just during this part of the conversation then things were crazy as usual).  This really hit an old sore spot with me.
I remember as a kid, I didn’t know much about prayer either.  I went to church and heard  prayers and I remember on tons of occasions hearing my Nanny (who I lived with) praying and even sometimes weeping during prayer in her room, but I was a kid and other than blessing food sometimes, wasn’t called on to pray out loud.  I felt like God was too busy taking care of all the big adult problems and mine weren’t that important.  I don’t think I was really taught this, I just wasn’t taught differently.
When I was about 9 or 10, I went on a competition trip with my Baton group to Denver and sometime during that trip was asked to pray out loud about something.  I was terrified, but prayed my 10 year old prayer and said AMEN as fast as I could.  Unfortunately, there was a girl in my group who laughed and laughed and made so much fun of me because my prayer was simple and spoken like the 10 year old I was.  She apparently had been taught to pray with beautiful words, with a holy voice, and to speak like she never did in her real life.
The worst part was I spent years feeling like my prayers weren’t good enough and it wasn’t until way into my adult life that I ever prayed out loud in front of someone again.  It took me a long time to figure out that I didn’t need to be someone I wasn’t when I come before God.  Kids and even adults can be cruel, sometimes without even knowing the impact they have, and it’s unfortunate how someone’s words can stick with us so long and how we let the enemy use those words against us for years.
He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.  Matthew 18:2-6
Over all the years of doing Children’s Ministry with my hubby, this has been something at the top of my list with kids.  We don’t need to pretend we are something we aren’t, God know us, the good and the bad.  He knows where we are, who we are, and how we are.  We need to be in complete AWE of Him but not afraid to bear all in the way we can.  He is way more concerned THAT we talk to Him, than how we talk to Him.
Kids say what they think, think what they are taught, and they learn from our actions way more than they do from our words.  If we are teaching them the right things, giving them a strong biblical foundation, and modeling a true relationship with Jesus, they will have what it takes to ignore unkind words and attacks from the enemy.  They will know who they are in CHRIST.
Join me in working to make sure every child knows, sees, and feels the love of Jesus!!

Nothing Better Than Jesus and Kids!!

What a wonderful weekend we had!!  Unfortunately, it started with me being extremely sick!!  I guess I got the bug from Ella.  I don’t usually catch those things, but this time I did and it was awful.  Good thing those bugs don’t last too long!!

Saturday Drew put his car (I posted about him and his diligence with it a while back, click here) in a car show for the first time.  That was pretty cool.  He worked on it for a long time and it was wonderful for him to be able to show it and have others appreciate his hard work and diligence.

Of course, Sunday started out with church, which was great.  I love those messages that are completely directed at you or something you are dealing with.  That’s how yesterday was.  We walked in the door somewhat discouraged and walked out knowing that God had met us there, given us the peace and encouragement we needed, and then He continued to walk with us as we left!!

We spent the afternoon at the pool with the kids, all of them!!  I’m telling you, meeting God in the morning, walking around with Him all day, and spending the day with all my kids and granddaughter, makes for one JOYful wife, mom, and Nanny!!

So like I said, what a wonderful weekend we had!!

Believing your weekend was filled with God, fun, and family too!!

Silent Tears

When we were at Silver Dollar City over the weekend, I was the self-appointed, designated babysitter/stuff holder while everyone was riding rides.  I would way rather spend my time with my sweet granddaughter than ride any ride!!  Anyway, the first ride we came to was a pretty scary roller coaster and everyone went to ride except Ella and I.  She was in a stroller and had her back to me so I couldn’t see her face as we walked away from them and went to sit on a bench.  I left her facing away so she could see the ride but after a minute or two asked her if she wanted to get out and sit on my lap.  She shook her head “Yes” so I turned her around only to see tears running down her face.  She wasn’t crying hard or anything, not even making noise, just tears running down her face.  I didn’t realize, in all the excitement for everyone to ride, and Ella and I to get where we could see, we had just walked away from everyone and she didn’t know her momma was leaving and didn’t get to say bye.  The sweet little thing didn’t make a peep, just sat there broken hearted.  I talked to her about it for a second, told her what momma was doing and then she was fine.  We walked down where she could see the ride better and she said, “My momma is gonna ride THAT!!  She’s going to freak out!”  She’s too funny.
Anyway, today it really got me thinking (AGAIN) how Jesus must feel when we walk away from Him.  Even for something little like Lindsey did from Ella.  She was only going to be gone a few minutes, it wasn’t a big deal, but to Ella it was huge.  Sometimes we take our eyes off Jesus just for a few minutes, or walk away really quickly to do something our way, not even realizing we didn’t talk to Him about it, just like Lindsey did.  I wonder if He sits beside God, like Ella was sitting beside me, with tears running down His face?  Broken hearted because we aren’t where He wants us to be, doing what He wants us to do, or maybe knowing that whatever it is we are doing could hurt us?
You know, it is amazing to me how He uses such little every day things and sometimes not so little things, to reign me in, to remind me of His love for me, to remind me to keep my eyes on Him at ALL times.  To remind me that it is ALWAYS better His way.
Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in Him.  Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.  And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.  May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.  Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.  Ephesians 3:17-19

Praying that I will not be the cause of tears on His face!!

Why I “Count it all Joy” Wednesday

I am filled with JOY because Ella is feeling better today, Praise Jesus!!
I am filled with JOY because I did the 30-Day Shred-Level 3 after our 3 day mini-vacation and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.  I mean it is definitely hard, but it didn’t kill me!!
I am filled with JOY because I got new glasses and I love them, I think they are super cute and trendy!!

I am filled with JOY because I got to put some summer blonde in my hair.

Me with my new blonde and glasses!!

I am filled with JOY because our neighborhood pool is open and the boys and I will be living there for a couple of months.
I am filled with JOY because 32 ounce drinks at Quik Trip are 49 cents for the summer!!  YIPPEE, that’s always a treat for the kiddos!!
I am filled with JOY because it is absolutely beautiful outside!!  It is in the 90’s this week, which is abnormally hot but still beautiful!!
I am filled with JOY because when the boys were having a water gun, hose, bucket fight, Drew turned the hose on my sweet hubby and soaked him, LOL!!  He is always such a good sport.  I guess he has to be since they learned all that from US!!

I am filled with JOY because last night a lady I have met only a couple of times, just randomly hugged me and said I was a “JOY”!!  That sure made my day!!!
I am filled with JOY because Jesus is AMAZING!!  He love me at my best and especially at my worst.  He turns my sorrow into JOY and makes my happiness even happier.  He is my best friend when I am doing things His way and even when I think I can do it my way.
Believing you too are filled with JOY!!

What Fun!!

Suits packed, snacks packed, kids loaded, mom and dad on board and we headed out bright and early Saturday morning for our quick trip to Branson.  Everyone was excited to get away and have some FUN.

Lindsey had to sit between these two, look what it does to her!!

Ella, on the other hand was very happy with her spot!!

Pulling into town, you always know you are in Branson when you start seeing swimming pools right beside the road, and there are always people in them.  That is one rule I have, we don't stay anywhere with the pool right on the main strip.  No thank you, I really don't want EVERY tourist in Branson to see me in my suit.

First stop - Cakes n Cream Dessert Parlor - it's a 50's type ice cream shop with food too.  They play the old music from the 50's which seems to make everyone smile.

Ice Cream and Shakes for the kids!!  Ella was lovin' some Chocolate!!  Since some of my Shred Sisters read this blog too, I will not be disclosing what or how much I ate : )

This is the view from our hotel.

I think we were at the hotel all of 5 minutes before this was happening!!

Lindsey had a visitor.  This BEE really liked her.  It kept landing on her, no matter where she moved.  She was so calm, she even took this picture.  I, on the other hand, probably would have gotten stung because I would have been panicking !!

We went down to the river for dinner and to watch the fountain light show!!

It is amazing how high the water shoots up!!

Silver Dollar City!!  I think everyone who has ever been there has a picture in the wooden casket!

It was pretty hot for May in Branson!!  Rides, drinks, rides, drinks!!

We played mini golf, which was hilarious.  At one point, Lindsey hit her ball and it went flying right into Adam's leg, she isn't very good!!
This is Ella very disappointed when her ball went in the last hole and she realized
it wasn't coming back : (

Unfortunately, Ella woke up Monday morning about 2:00 throwing up and it continued every 30 minutes until about 8:30 we took her to ER because she was getting dehydrated.
They said she had a virus.
We loaded up lots of drinks and anti-nausea medicine and headed home.

Other than the last few hours, it was a great trip.  We had so much fun.  I am telling you, we laugh until we hurt.  God has truly blessed me with an amazing family!!

We did, however, miss Shane, who is still at training, but will return soon.  I loved all the Memorial Day thanks to our soldiers, they really don't get the appreciation they deserve and most people don't realize how much they sacrifice.  Holidays are one of the hardest for a mom!!

Here's my HERO!!

Sorry the type is humongous, something is wrong with my blog AGAIN!!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend too!!
